UAP School of Pharmacy Welcomes Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza as Adjunct Professor

The School of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organized a warm welcoming session to formally welcome Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmacy. Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Vice Chancellor, UAP, was present to extend his warm welcome and best wishes. The session was hosted by Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean, School of Pharmacy, who introduced Professor Dr. Selim Reza and highlighted his academic background, professional experience, and expertise, emphasizing his potential contribution to the academic development of the department.

Following the welcome session, Professor Dr. Selim Reza delivered a presentation titled “Exploring Correlation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Bangladeshi Nutraceuticals,” based on his recent academic and professional visit to China. He shared valuable insights into Chinese pharmaceutical education, research infrastructure, pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical research, hospital pharmacy services, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He also highlighted opportunities for Bangladesh–China collaboration through joint research, faculty and student exchange, postgraduate education, training, and knowledge sharing. The potential of Bangladesh’s medicinal plants and biodiversity for developing evidence-based nutraceuticals through scientific validation was also emphasized.

A formal felicitation session was subsequently arranged to celebrate Professor Dr. Selim Reza’s appointment. Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Professor Dr. Zabun Nahar, Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Professor Dr. Irin Dewan, and other faculty members extended their congratulations and best wishes. Senior faculty members shared their memories and previous experiences with Professor Reza, followed by the presentation of a flower bouquet as a token of welcome and appreciation. The faculty expressed their enthusiasm for future academic, research, healthcare, and professional collaborations.

UAP Pharmacy Hosts Seminar on “Immunotherapy: A Prospective Therapeutic Potential Against Hematological Malignancies”

The Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific, organized a seminar titled “Immunotherapy: A Prospective Therapeutic Potential Against Hematological Malignancies” on August 10, 2026, at Room 414, University of Asia Pacific. The seminar aimed to provide students with valuable insights into the emerging field of immunotherapy and its therapeutic applications in hematological malignancies.

The department was honored to welcome Dr. Mohammad Sohorab Hossain, Director of the Emory Integrated Biorepository Core (EIBC), Emory University School of Medicine, as the distinguished guest speaker. Dr. Hossain delivered an insightful and engaging session on the principles of immunotherapy, its application in combating hematological malignancies, and the promising prospects of immune-based therapeutic strategies in cancer treatment.

Distinguished attendees included Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice Chancellor; Prof. Dr. Zebun Nahar, Head, Department of Pharmacy; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean, School of Pharmacy; Ramisa Anjum, Assistant Professor; and Fahmida Tasnim Richi, Lecturer, who also hosted the event. The seminar created an interactive platform where students gained valuable knowledge about the mechanisms, applications, and therapeutic potential of immunotherapy. The session highlighted the growing importance of immune-based approaches in modern cancer therapy and encouraged participants to explore emerging therapeutic strategies. INTERNATIONAL BENCHMARKING VISIT TO INDONESIA

1. Introduction
In line with the vision of internationalization and strengthening global academic engagement, a delegation from the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), Bangladesh, undertook an international benchmarking and academic collaboration visit to Indonesia from 13 to 19 June 2026. The visit aimed to establish long-term institutional partnerships, strengthen research excellence, promote international academic cooperation, and formalize collaborative relationships through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs).

During this visit, the delegation visited four leading Indonesian universities:
1. Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS)
2. Universitas Setia Budi (USB)
3. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS)
4. Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII)

The benchmarking visit focused on promoting joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange, postgraduate collaboration, research publications, innovation development, and other academic activities that support the internationalization agenda of UAP.

• To promote faculty exchange and student mobility programs
• To facilitate postgraduate student and postdoctoral attachments
• To enhance collaborative scientific publications and innovation development
• To benchmark academic and research infrastructures and practices

4. Activities and Outcomes

4.1 Arrival in Jakarta
Date: 13 June 2026
The delegation arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 13 June 2026. Before proceeding to Surakarta, the team spent a day in Jakarta exploring the historical and cultural landmarks of the Indonesian capital. The delegation visited National Monument (MONAS), Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral which reflects Indonesia's spirit of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence. These visits provided valuable insights into Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and social diversity.

4.2 Transfer to Surakarta and Reception by UMS
Date: 14 June 2026 at afternoon
On 14 June 2026, the delegation traveled to Surakarta via a domestic flight. Upon arrival, representatives from the International Office of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) warmly received the delegation and provided transportation to the hotel, demonstrating UMS's hospitality and commitment to international partnerships.

4.3 Visit to Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS)
Date: Morning Session – 15 June 2026
The academic activities commenced with an official visit to the Rectorate of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The UAP delegation was received by Dr. Hepy Adityarini, Head of Sub-directorate for Mobility and Academic Partnership, Directorate of Reputation, Partnerships and International Affairs (DRPI), UMS. The UAP team was led by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan and Prof. Dr. Ir. Supriyono, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Institutional Reputation, Impact, Partnership and Internationalization, lead to UMS Team. During the meeting, both parties exchanged institutional profiles and discussed potential areas of collaboration including:
• Joint academic activities
• Joint research projects
• Collaborative research grants
• International publications
• Student and faculty exchange
• Mobility programs and internationalization initiatives

Following the fruitful discussions, both universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a framework for academic cooperation over the next five years. After the signing ceremony, the UMS team arranged a comprehensive campus tour covering its four campuses. The delegation observed the teaching facilities, laboratories, libraries, and student support systems. The visit concluded with a luncheon hosted by UMS.

4.4 Meeting with Faculty of Pharmacy, UMS
Date: Afternoon Session – 15 June 2026
At 2:00 PM, the delegation held a meeting with the Faculty of Pharmacy, UMS. The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean, School of Pharmacy, UAP for UAP Team and Prof. Dr. apt. Peni Indrayudha, Vice Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, UMS. Both institutions presented their academic portfolios through PowerPoint presentations and explored collaborative opportunities. Areas discussed included:

• Academic exchange programs
• Collaborative publications
• Student mobility
• Postgraduate collaboration
• Online seminars and workshops

Following the discussion, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the School of Pharmacy, UAP and the Faculty of Pharmacy, UMS.

4.5 Cultural and Nature Exploration
Date: 16 June 2026
As 16 June 2026 was a public holiday in Indonesia in observance of the Islamic New Year, the delegation utilized the day to experience local attractions Telaga Madirda, Sewu Waterfall and Jembatan Kaca (Glass Bridge).

4.6 Visit to Universitas Setia Budi (USB)
Date: Morning Session – 17 June 2026
The delegation was transported by the International Office of Universitas Setia Budi and was warmly received by the Faculty of Pharmacy. The meeting was led by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, UAP and Prof. Dr. Dra. Peni Pujiastuti, Vice Rector, USB. Both parties discussed extensive opportunities for collaboration, including:
• Joint research grant applications
• Collaborative research projects
• Postgraduate student attachment
• Postdoctoral fellow attachment
• Faculty exchange programs
• Research publications
• Innovative product development
• Student interaction programs

Following the successful discussion, both institutions signed the MoU. The delegation subsequently visited teaching and research laboratories guided by Prof. Dr. apt Iswandi, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy.

Dr. Shihab Uddin Ahmad, Assistant Professor, School of Pharmacy, UAP delivered a guest lecture entitled: “Writing a Systematic Review: Step-by-Step Guideline”. Approximately 50 participants, mostly pharmacy students, attended the session. The lecture generated significant interest and active interaction among participants.

4.7 Visit to Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS)
Date: Afternoon Session – 17 June 2026
At 2:00 PM, the delegation visited Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) and its Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS). The meeting was led by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, UAP and Prof. Dr. Desi Suci Handayani, Dean, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNS. The portfolio meeting focused on identifying collaborative areas such as:
• Joint research projects
• Student attachment programs
• Collaborative publications
• Student interaction programs
• Faculty exchange programs
• Online webinars
• External viva examination participation

Following productive discussions, an MoU was signed between UAP and UNS. Both parties agreed to finalize and sign the MoA between the School of Pharmacy, UAP and FMNS, UNS after revising the initial draft according to mutual interests and priorities.

4.8 Visit to Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII)
Date: 18 June 2026 – 9:00 AM
The final institutional visit was conducted at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). The meeting commenced with the Department of Pharmacy and was led by Prof. Dr. apt. Yandi Syukri, Head, Department of Pharmacy, UII. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean, School of Pharmacy, UAP emphasized the importance of sustainable academic and research collaboration. The draft MoU and MoA had been shared with UII before the meeting. Discussions focused on:

• Scope of collaboration
• Roles and responsibilities of both institutions
• Sustainable implementation mechanisms

UII suggested initiating several collaborative activities before formalizing the agreements. Both parties agreed to begin with:
• Online seminars and webinars
• Participation as external viva board members
• Collaborative manuscript preparation and shared authorship
• Research and academic networking

The meeting concluded with agreement that UII would send the finalized draft agreements after incorporating mutual recommendations. The delegation also visited the laboratories and research facilities of the Pharmacy department, UII.

4.9 Return to Bangladesh (19 June 2026)
The delegation departed Indonesia on the morning of 19 June 2026 and returned to Dhaka, Bangladesh, successfully completing the international benchmarking mission.

Through strategic engagements with Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Setia Budi, Universitas Sebelas Maret, and Universitas Islam Indonesia, the delegation established strong foundations for sustainable academic and research partnerships. The signed MoUs (Between UAP and UMS, USB and UNS respectively) and MoAs (between the School of Pharmacy, UAP and Faculty of Pharmacy, UMS), together with the commitments made by all parties, are expected to facilitate collaborative research, academic mobility, joint publications, innovation development, and capacity-building initiatives. These partnerships will undoubtedly enhance the global presence and academic reputation of the UAP and contribute to achieving excellence in teaching, research, and international cooperation.

UAP Pharmacy Students Visit Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC to Experience Industrial Pharmacy in Practice

The Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organized an industrial visit to Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC, Bhaluka, Mymensingh, on May 20, 2026. A total of 44 students participated, accompanied by five faculty members.

Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC is a leading oncology-focused pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. Students observed key areas including the Solid Manufacturing Unit, Quality Control Department, and Warehouse.

The industrial visit created a valuable bridge between classroom learning and real pharmaceutical practice.

Pharma Cultural Evening 2026: Celebrating Creativity, Culture, and Unity

The Pharmacy Cultural Club (PCC), Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific, successfully organized "Pharma Cultural Evening 2026" on 19 May 2026, bringing together students, faculty members, and staff for an evening filled with entertainment, creativity, and celebration.

The event featured energetic dance performances, soulful musical presentations, a Pharma News segment, and a drama performance that captivated the audience.

The program was graced by Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice Chancellor; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahriar, Dean; and Prof. Dr. Zabun Nahar, Head, Department of Pharmacy.

UAP Pharma Fusion 2026: A Grand Pharmaceutical Fest

The Pharma Science Club of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organized a grand pharmaceutical fest titled "UAP Pharma Fusion 2026" on May 17, 2026, at the UAP Campus.

The fest featured Poster Symposium, MedMind Olympiad, Brand Name Competition, Scientific Writing Contest, and Educational Video Illustration, along with a cultural program and raffle draw.

The opening session was adorned by Dr. Jakir Ahmed Chowdhury as Special Guest and Dr. K. M. Mozibul Hoque as Guest of Honor. Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC joined as a sponsor.

On May 13, 2026, the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Asia Pacific organized a seminar titled "Role of a Pharmacist in the Marketing Department of Pharmaceuticals" at the UAP Auditorium.

UAP Pharmacy Students Visit Incepta Pharmaceuticals PLC to Gain Practical Exposure to Modern Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

The Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organized an industrial visit to Incepta Pharmaceuticals PLC, Zirabo, Dhaka, on May 7, 2026. A total of 40 students participated in the visit, accompanied by five faculty members.

Students visited the Biotechnology Unit, Solid Manufacturing Unit, Quality Control Department, and the warehouse facility, gaining valuable insights into advanced biopharmaceutical production processes.

This hands-on industrial exposure helped students connect theoretical concepts with practical pharmaceutical operations.

Social Awareness Club Hosts "Blood Donation Campaign Fall 2025" to Promote Life-Saving Voluntary Donation

The Social Awareness Club (SAC) of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), successfully organized the "Blood Donation Campaign Fall 2025" on May 04, 2026, at the UAP Plaza, in collaboration with Quantum Foundation.

The program was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Honorable Acting Vice Chancellor of UAP. More than 100 participants were willing to donate blood, and after screening, a total of 76 donors were found eligible.

The event was organized under the guidance of Mahjabeen Gazi, Assistant Professor and Convener of SAC; Ms. Adeeba Jaheen Faruqui, Lecturer and Co-Convener; and Samiha Rahman Arthi, Lecturer and Member of SAC.

Parliamentary Debate Workshop and Competition

On April 29th and 30th, the Department of Pharmacy hosted a vibrant two-day event organized by the Pharmacy Debating and Public Speaking Club - Tarkik. The program combined an intensive parliamentary debate workshop with a high-stakes competition.

The event was headlined by Mr. Sallal Hossain, a renowned figure in the debating circuit. The first day was dedicated to a comprehensive workshop covering parliamentary debate techniques.

The second day saw students putting their new skills to the test in a spirited parliamentary debate competition. The event concluded with a formal closing ceremony graced by Dr. Zabun Nahar, Head of the Department of Pharmacy.

Pharma Sports Carnival, Fall-2025

The Pharma Sports Carnival, Fall-2025 was successfully organized by Projjolon-54 from the Department of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific. The carnival was divided into three major segments: Cricket, Indoor Games and Basketball.

Cricket was held on April 24, 25 & 26, 2026. Champion: Batch 58, Runner-Up: Batch 55.

Indoor Games were held on April 27 & 28, 2026, including Table Tennis, Chess, Ludo and Carrom.

Clinical Pharmacy Practices in Canada: Opportunities and Challenges for Bangladesh

On April 22, 2026, the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Asia Pacific hosted an insightful seminar titled "Clinical Pharmacy Practices in Canada: Opportunities and Challenges for Bangladesh".

We were honored to have Mr. Faisol Ferdous, Owner of Millet Pharmacy, Millet, AB, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, as the keynote speaker. With his extensive experience in clinical pharmacy practices in Canada, Mr. Ferdous delivered an engaging session highlighting the evolving role of pharmacists in patient-centered care.

Marking a first for the department, this live podcast introduced an engaging and interactive format.
